Gyver Industries LR9 Tri-Stand Head Vice

Gyver Industries’ LR9 Tri-Stand head vice is designed for laboratory use and is shown in Figure 1.  The LR9 allows the veterinarian or laboratory technician to safely secure large animal skulls and limbs for educational or diagnostic work.

The LR9 is constructed entirely of 304 stainless steel (excluding the spike rubber backing cushions, wear pads, and the rubber foot pads) for easy decontamination and years of use.  Each LR9 is equipped with 80 stainless steel spikes (40 per plate) compressed between two 3/8-inch thick plates lined with a Nitrile rubber cushion to securely hold each spike in place.  Each spike protrudes three quarters of an inch from the face of its mounting plate.  Each mounting plate is capable of rotating 180⁰ if spikes get bent on the bottom or top side of the plates to put the straightest spikes in the most effective clamping position before having the spikes replaced in the mounting plate.  The traversing vice plate of the LR9 glides on a ¾-inch thick machined stainless steel top using ultrahigh molecular weight (UHMW) polyethylene for smooth friction free travel and is adjusted using a manually operated hand screw.  The LR9 opens to a maximum of 12-7/8-inches from spike tip to spike tip and can be closed to a minimum of 1-inch from spike tip to spike tip.

The vice table sits on three 1-inch pipe legs that are inserted into the leg receivers and then bolted to the bottom of the vice.  Attached to the base of each leg is a 1-inch round by 3/8-inch thick rubber foot to provide non slip grip and protection to epoxy coated floors.
